Three Sustainable Practices That Anyone Can Do

Updated: Aug 27, 2025

Sustainability isn't necessarily large contributions to the environment like many people think. Really, little, consistent choices are what drive change and can make a difference, especially when an entire community does them. Whether you're a die-hard tree hugger or just someone trying to make sustainable choices, here are three simple, yet powerful actions that just about anyone can do.

1. Reduce Single-Use Items♻️

Many of us are guilty of using items like plastic straws and takeout containers that are designed to be used only once. Once you use them, what exactly happens to them? Unfortunately, these items are treated like trash and usually end up in landfills or in the ocean where wildlife can be harmed. Luckily, there are a variety of reusable items that you can use in place of single-use products, such as high-quality metal water bottles and silicone straws, two items that I personally use daily. Others include reusable shopping bags, beeswax wrap, and resealable sandwich baggies. Opting for these products will drastically reduce your carbon footprint. Little changes like this will make living life much more sustainable.

2. Conserve Energy💡

Conserving energy is one of the simplest switches you can make that ensures that you live green. Just being conscious about energy consumption in your home can really make a difference in environmental efforts. Be sure to turn off lights and unplug devices when not in use. If you really wanted to, consider using LED lightbulbs which are better for the environment and much more efficient, which may also help lower your electricity bill!

3. Consider Transportation Alternatives🚗

Driving a gas-powered car on daily commutes is high on carbon emissions and can build your carbon footprint dramatically over time. For short distances, biking is a great, sustainable, alternative to driving since you not only make your life greener, but also make it healthier by exercising. For longer commutes, public transport services like buses, trams, and subways are great ways to lower your carbon footprint and conserve your car's fuel for when you need it most.

Simple switches like these are what drive conservation efforts and sustainability, so doing them is what really makes a difference. I will be presenting some more eco-friendly practices in future posts, so stay tuned for that! I know that this post was more focused on the environment, so I'll try to incorporate some more technology stuff in more posts too. Until next time, Earth lovers!
